Today's Quote - You are never too old to rock 'n roll, you are never too young to die!
Whoever knows the author of this quote - e-mail me or leave a comment - sorry NO prizes.
Yesterday I received the latest issue of MOJO magazine. By far the most readable, informed R&R magazine published today. It follows in the footsteps of CREEM, RELIX, & ( a very early) ROLLING STONE. (Jann Wenner you sold out!! & the current version SUCKS!). Enough of my ranting about ROLLING STONE - maybe I will leave that for another blog.
Anyway back to MOJO - the magazine is not a revivalist tome, but they cover all spectrum's of the musical taste. Sometimes I can find very little that truly interests me, but I will read it anyway - just to inform myself.
Each issue carries the standards for a R&R magazine reviews, interviews, main articles etc.
MOJO, at least names the with a hint of English sarcasm (or humor- whatever way you look at it).
My personal favorites (1st things I read before getting into the meat & potatoes of the magazine) are as follows. ALL BACK TO MY PLACE - HELLO GOODBYE - FILTER REISSUES - REAL GONE - THEORIES, RANTS & RAVES - ASK FRED.
ALL BACK TO MY PLACE - Asks the same questions (each month) of various musicians from both the past & present. they are
1) What music are you currently grooving to? (I know the word grooving went out of use with the beat generation & Allen Ginsberg).
2) What, if push comes to shove, is your all-time favorite album? (We have all played this game before).
3) What was the first record you ever bought? And where did you buy it? (just to show how sick I am - I know this - 40 Miles of Bad Road by Duane Eddy from Savilles Music Shop in Wood Green London back in 1960- something).
4) Which musician, other than yourself , have you ever wanted to be? ( No comment).
5) What you sing in the shower? ( We just wont go there OK!).
6) What is your favorite Saturday night record?
7) And Sunday morning?
The answers have sometimes been fascinating, surprising and downright weird. Although nobody (as far as I can remember) has ever wanted to be Johnny Rotten or Sid Vicious.
OK more on MOJO tomorrow - see you later. Same time same bat channel!
